The Water Quality and Biotechnology Laboratory in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Cincinnati is directed by Dr. Daniel B. Oerther.

The research, education, and service activities of the WQB team integrate molecular microbial ecology, public health microbiology, and bioprocess engineering to understand microorganisms in natural and man-made environments.

Recently, the focus of the WQB has expanded to include sustainability and global development as part of the overall mission of the program.
